New York, NY – This 49th annual New York Film Festival took place at Lincoln Center this fall from September 30th through October 16th. The film festival is sponsored by The Film Society of Lincoln Center is housed in several venues at Lincoln Center this year including the newly-opened Elin Bunin Munroe Film Center with three screens, the luxurious Alice Tully Hall, and the senior Walter Reade Theatre. Executive Director Rose Kuo and Program Director Richard Peña, who is to retire next year after the 50th NYFF, has done a splendid job curating the film festival that started the careers of Pedro Almodóvar, Mike Leigh, Lars Von Trier, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Hong Sang Soo amongst many more.

Films screened and attended by CLC Advisors, LLC included Pedro Almodóvar’s La Piel Que Habitito (The Skin I Live In), Roger Corman’s The Intruder starring a young William Shatner at the beginning of his acting career, filmed and released during the Civil Rights movement in the south; and Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel, Director Alex Stapleton’s documentary film about the exploitation films, B-movie king legend himself, Roger Corman. Many film buffs should be delighted about Corman’s World that features a montage of interviews from Hollywood heavyweights whom he nurtured during their careers. He was the man responsible for starting Jack Nicholson’s illustrious movie career as well the directorial debut for Ron Howard in Grand Theft Auto and nurturing the talents of Martin Scorsese, Peter Bogdanovich, Jonathan Demme, Peter Fonda, Pam Grier and Robert De Niro.

A reception followed after the Corman double-feature and guests included the man of the hour himself, Roger Corman, his wife Julie Corman and director Jonathan Demme whose Academy Award winning films include The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia.

Pedro Almodóvar’s La Piel Que Habitito (The Skin I Live In) will be released in New York and Los Angeles next month and Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel will be released in New York and Los Angeles on December 16th.
